A Little About the Electrical Panel

Your electrical panel installation is a central part of the building’s electrical system. Also known as a breaker box or distribution board, the electrical panel serves as a central hub where electricity from the utility line is distributed throughout the many electrical circuits in the home or business. It is responsible for safely controlling and managing the flow of electricity through your building or home.

The electrical panel protects the electrical system from overloads and faults by cutting off power to any electrical circuit with unusual electrical activity. But electrical panels are not perfect. Poorly installed wiring, wear and tear, and accidental damage can cause electrical panels to work improperly. This is why routine electrical inspections are so important!

Signs of a Faulty or Damaged Electrical Panel

So how do you know if your electrical panel installation in Schertz is on it’s A-game? For beginners, make sure you are not experiencing the following tell-tale signs of a faulty electrical panel:

  • Frequent Power Outages: If circuit breakers frequently trip or fuses blow, it could indicate that the panel is overloaded, or there may be a faulty circuit breaker.
  • Corrosion and Physical Damage: Inspect the electrical panel for signs of corrosion, rust, or physical damage. Moisture or water infiltration can be particularly dangerous and may require immediate attention.
  • Signs of Burning: Similarly, scorch marks and the smell of burning or overheating are also serious concerns that require immediate attention.
  • Flickering Lights: Frequent flickering lights, buzzing sounds, or other unexplained electrical issues may also indicate a problem with the electrical panel or circuitry.

When is the last time you had your electrical panel installation inspected by a certified electrician? Schedule an inspection once every 2-3 years to make sure there are no safety risks and inefficiencies in the electrical system.

What If I Have Fuses Instead of Switches?

Modern homes use circuit breakers, or switches, in the electrical panel, but older homes used to employ fuse boxes. If your building is from the 20th century, then you may have fuses rather than switches in your electrical panel. In this case, we recommend a fuse box upgrade. Here’s why.

A circuit breaker installation has a line of switches, and a switch will flip into the OFF position to cut off power to a problematic circuit. In a fuse box, the fuse will blow and must be replaced. That is, fuses are non-resettable. As you can guess, changing fuses is tiresome and costly in the long run.

Is It Time to Upgrade or Replace Your Electrical Panel?

Whether your electrical panel uses fuses or has insufficient capacity, an electrical panel replacement in Schertz can be a valuable investment. Electrical work should always be performed by qualified professionals to ensure the safety and integrity of the electrical system. Call Mr. Electric to hire a certified and uniformed electrician in Schertz, TX today.

Our Customers Love our Services

John was on time, explained the issue I was having, offered me a couple of options, and then repaired the switch that was giving me problems, following my preferences of the choices he had given me.  He was pleasant, professional, and did a great job.  Would not hesitate to  use Mr. Electric again!

Austin, electrician and his teammate we’re great! Both were punctual, courteous, and very informative in explaining the situation and their recommendations to replace a bad breaker in our panel.  There was NO frivolous attempt up-sale to items we didn’t need and they were straight to the point honest in their recommendation. In the end, I would described the customer service Austin and his teammate provided me as, AWESOME! Being a new home owner, I am glad I have found  this company and will be using them any future electrical needs!

Outstanding communication and very professional service.  I would highly recommend Mr. Electric.  Received both e-mails and texts on appointment to include a photo and short bio of the actual electrician (Brad Mason) who would be doing the work.  Wish all home service providers did the same.  Brad was on time (actually a few minutes early).  He installed 30AMP breaker and associated RV plug in our garage.  To avoid any sheetrock repairs it was necessary for him to drop the line to the house electric panel through a wall with foam insulation, with very limited head/body clearance for him to work.  No mess left behind from the actual plug installation on another wall.

Rick from Mr. Electric arrived when expected and quickly diagnosed the problem.  He recommended a solution and gave us a proposal for solving the problem.  We asked when he could do the work and how long would it take.  He said he could do the job that day and it would take 4 or 5 hours.  The price was reasonable, and we told him to get started.  He did a very good job, neat and within the estimated time.  The invoice amount for the job was was the same as the proposal amount.  We are planning on having Mr. Electric and hopefully Rick do more work in the near future to upgrade our home's 50+ year old electrical system.
