Smoke detectors save lives

We take them for granted, but smoke detectors deserve a lot more of our attention and appreciation. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the presence of a functional smoke detector cuts the risk of dying in a reported fire by 50%! Sadly, the NFPA estimates that roughly 3 out of 10 reported house fires occur in homes without working smoke detectors.

It's not enough to have a smoke detector installation. Responsible property owners should regularly test their units and make sure the batteries are changed at least once a year.

Caring for the smoke detector

Smoke detectors are humble devices but they deserve some tender loving care. Help your unit help you by keeping up with routine maintenance and testing. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Test Monthly: Press the test button on each smoke detector at least once a month to make sure the unit is responsive.
  • Replace Batteries: For battery-operated smoke detectors, replace the batteries at least once a year or sooner if you start hearing chirping sounds.
  • Clean the Detectors: Dust and debris can affect sensors. Periodically use a soft brush or damp cloth to clean the outside.
  • Inspect for Damage: Regularly check smoke detectors for signs of wear or damage, such as cracks, discoloration, or corrosion. Arrange a smoke detector repair or replacement if necessary.

This work will only take a few minutes of your time per month on average, but the payoff is tremendous. Ensure that your smoke detectors remain reliable and ready to protect you and your family in the event of a fire.

Our Customers Love our Services

John was on time, explained the issue I was having, offered me a couple of options, and then repaired the switch that was giving me problems, following my preferences of the choices he had given me.  He was pleasant, professional, and did a great job.  Would not hesitate to  use Mr. Electric again!

Austin, electrician and his teammate we’re great! Both were punctual, courteous, and very informative in explaining the situation and their recommendations to replace a bad breaker in our panel.  There was NO frivolous attempt up-sale to items we didn’t need and they were straight to the point honest in their recommendation. In the end, I would described the customer service Austin and his teammate provided me as, AWESOME! Being a new home owner, I am glad I have found  this company and will be using them any future electrical needs!

Outstanding communication and very professional service.  I would highly recommend Mr. Electric.  Received both e-mails and texts on appointment to include a photo and short bio of the actual electrician (Brad Mason) who would be doing the work.  Wish all home service providers did the same.  Brad was on time (actually a few minutes early).  He installed 30AMP breaker and associated RV plug in our garage.  To avoid any sheetrock repairs it was necessary for him to drop the line to the house electric panel through a wall with foam insulation, with very limited head/body clearance for him to work.  No mess left behind from the actual plug installation on another wall.

Rick from Mr. Electric arrived when expected and quickly diagnosed the problem.  He recommended a solution and gave us a proposal for solving the problem.  We asked when he could do the work and how long would it take.  He said he could do the job that day and it would take 4 or 5 hours.  The price was reasonable, and we told him to get started.  He did a very good job, neat and within the estimated time.  The invoice amount for the job was was the same as the proposal amount.  We are planning on having Mr. Electric and hopefully Rick do more work in the near future to upgrade our home's 50+ year old electrical system.
