Surge Protection Installation in Selma, TX

A power surge can occur unexpectedly, causing significant damage to your devices and electrical safety issues. Whether it is because of power grid failure, lightning strikes, or power outages, investing in professional surge protection services can protect your loved ones, coworkers, and devices from voltage spikes. However, property owners often have questions before undertaking such projects, and that’s where Mr. Electric comes in. As a trusted electrical service, we provide comprehensive services and pertinent information to help you understand the process. Let’s delve into frequently asked questions about surge protection installation in Selma to help you make informed decisions.

What Is a Surge Protector, and Why Do You Need One?

A surge protection system is a device that shields your electrical system and appliances from voltage spikes. When a power surge occurs, the protector diverts the excess electricity to the ground, preventing it from flowing through your devices. Since minor surges can cause damage to sensitive electronics such as computers, televisions, and refrigerators, investing in a whole-house surge protector is wise. Over time, repeated exposure to small surges can degrade these devices, leading to costly repairs or emergency surge protection replacement projects.

How Does a Whole-House Surge Protector Work?

A whole-house surge protection installation occurs at the main electrical panel to protect your entire wiring and appliances from surges. During voltage spikes, the device intercepts the surge before it can enter your home’s electrical system, diverting the excess energy safely to the ground. Unlike plug-in surge protectors, a whole-house system offers more protection by covering every outlet and electrical device in your home. This level of protection is vital in areas prone to frequent thunderstorms or power grid issues.

Is Surge Protection Necessary if I Have Power Strips?

While power strips with built-in surge protection provide minimal defense, they are not as reliable as a whole-house surge protection system. Power strips only protect the devices plugged into them, leaving other electronics and appliances vulnerable to surges. Also, power strips can wear out over time, reducing their effectiveness. A whole-house surge protector offers comprehensive protection for all electrical devices, including hard-wired appliances like HVAC systems and water heaters.

Can I Handle Surge Protection Replacement or Installation Myself?

While home improvement projects are ideal for DIY enthusiasts, surge protection installation should be left to the professionals. It involves working with your home’s electrical panel, which can be dangerous if you’re not trained in electrical work. Unlike untrained individuals, a licensed electrician has experience with surge protection installation in Selma, ensuring your project meets local electrical codes. In addition, an electrical repair professional conducts in-depth assessments to determine the protector’s compatibility with your home’s electrical system for optimal protection.

How Long Do Surge Protectors Last?

After a professional surge protector installation, the unit can last between five to ten years under normal conditions. However, a severe power surge, such as one caused by a lightning strike, can significantly reduce its lifespan. It’s essential to check the indicator lights on your surge protector regularly to ensure it is functioning correctly. If the device shows signs of damage, it may be time to call an electrical repair service.

As a property owner, investing in a professional surge protector installation is a proactive way to protect your home from unexpected electrical spikes. While power strips with built-in surge protectors offer some protection, a whole-house surge protector provides comprehensive coverage for all your electrical devices. Contact us at Mr. Electric and schedule a consultation with our experts to ensure your home remains safe from power surges. We provide comprehensive services, saving you from costly repairs and electrical safety issues in the future.

John was on time, explained the issue I was having, offered me a couple of options, and then repaired the switch that was giving me problems, following my preferences of the choices he had given me.  He was pleasant, professional, and did a great job.  Would not hesitate to  use Mr. Electric again!

Austin, electrician and his teammate we’re great! Both were punctual, courteous, and very informative in explaining the situation and their recommendations to replace a bad breaker in our panel.  There was NO frivolous attempt up-sale to items we didn’t need and they were straight to the point honest in their recommendation. In the end, I would described the customer service Austin and his teammate provided me as, AWESOME! Being a new home owner, I am glad I have found  this company and will be using them any future electrical needs!

Outstanding communication and very professional service.  I would highly recommend Mr. Electric.  Received both e-mails and texts on appointment to include a photo and short bio of the actual electrician (Brad Mason) who would be doing the work.  Wish all home service providers did the same.  Brad was on time (actually a few minutes early).  He installed 30AMP breaker and associated RV plug in our garage.  To avoid any sheetrock repairs it was necessary for him to drop the line to the house electric panel through a wall with foam insulation, with very limited head/body clearance for him to work.  No mess left behind from the actual plug installation on another wall.

Rick from Mr. Electric arrived when expected and quickly diagnosed the problem.  He recommended a solution and gave us a proposal for solving the problem.  We asked when he could do the work and how long would it take.  He said he could do the job that day and it would take 4 or 5 hours.  The price was reasonable, and we told him to get started.  He did a very good job, neat and within the estimated time.  The invoice amount for the job was was the same as the proposal amount.  We are planning on having Mr. Electric and hopefully Rick do more work in the near future to upgrade our home's 50+ year old electrical system.
