Electrical Wiring in Kirby, TX

There is easily 1,500 to 2,000 feet of electrical wiring running through the average home or business, but this crucial web of power is neglected by many property owners. Periodic electrical inspections and routine maintenance can go a long way in ensuring safe, effective, and efficient electrical systems. As reliable as electrical wires are, however, everyone will eventually make the call for electrical wiring repair or replacement.

If you are looking for electrical wiring contractors in Kirby, then consider the time-tested and uniformed professionals at Mr. Electric. Whether you need a comprehensive inspection or a whole house electrical wiring job, the certified electricians at Mr. Electric are here to help.

What’s the life expectancy of electrical wiring?

The life expectancy of electrical wiring can vary depending on several factors, including the type of wiring, the quality of installation, the environment in which it is used, and the level of maintenance it receives. With that said, let’s look at the lifespan of some common materials:

  • Copper Wiring: Copper is the most common material used for residential electrical wiring due to its excellent conductivity and durability. Well-installed and properly maintained copper wiring can last between 50 to 70 years.
  • Aluminum Wiring: Aluminum wiring, which was used in some homes from the 1960s to the 1970s, has a shorter lifespan and can pose serious safety risks. The life expectancy of aluminum wiring is typically around 30 years.
  • Knob-and-Tube Wiring: This type of wiring was commonly used in homes built before the 1950s. While knob-and-tube wiring can technically last up to 100 years, it is considered outdated and may not meet modern electrical safety standards.
  • Non-metallic (NM) Sheathed Wiring: Widely used in residential wiring today, NM wiring consists of multiple insulated conductors (wires) enclosed within a flexible plastic sheath. Similar to copper wiring, NM wiring can last between 50 and 70 years.

If you are not sure what your electrical wiring in Kirby, TX is made of, then make sure to ask during your next electrical inspection. Call Mr. Electric if it has been over 2 years since you last had your home wiring inspected.

The risks and costs of neglecting electrical wiring

Many property owners think electrical inspections are expensive, but they ignore or overlook the cost of NEGLECTING the electrical wiring. Neglecting electrical wiring can lead to a range of serious risks that can compromise the safety, functionality, and integrity of a property:

  • Fire Hazards: Overloaded circuits, short circuits, and arcing from frayed or damaged wiring can cause electrical fires and ignite nearby materials.
  • Electrical Shocks: Exposed or worn-out wiring can expose your body to over 200 volts of electricity. Even minor shocks can be dangerous, while severe shocks can be fatal.
  • Power Outages: Unreliable power supply can disrupt your work and schedule. Neglected wiring can cause this intermittent power issue.
  • Increased Energy Costs: Poorly maintained wiring can lead to inefficient electrical distribution as well as excessive heat loss. That translates into higher energy bills.

Then there’s damage to appliances and electronics, regulatory and insurance issues, health and safety risks, and much more. Why risk your well-being and property? Call Mr. Electric to have your whole house electrical wiring in Kirby inspected.

Our Customers Love our Services

John was on time, explained the issue I was having, offered me a couple of options, and then repaired the switch that was giving me problems, following my preferences of the choices he had given me.  He was pleasant, professional, and did a great job.  Would not hesitate to  use Mr. Electric again!

Austin, electrician and his teammate we’re great! Both were punctual, courteous, and very informative in explaining the situation and their recommendations to replace a bad breaker in our panel.  There was NO frivolous attempt up-sale to items we didn’t need and they were straight to the point honest in their recommendation. In the end, I would described the customer service Austin and his teammate provided me as, AWESOME! Being a new home owner, I am glad I have found  this company and will be using them any future electrical needs!

Outstanding communication and very professional service.  I would highly recommend Mr. Electric.  Received both e-mails and texts on appointment to include a photo and short bio of the actual electrician (Brad Mason) who would be doing the work.  Wish all home service providers did the same.  Brad was on time (actually a few minutes early).  He installed 30AMP breaker and associated RV plug in our garage.  To avoid any sheetrock repairs it was necessary for him to drop the line to the house electric panel through a wall with foam insulation, with very limited head/body clearance for him to work.  No mess left behind from the actual plug installation on another wall.

Rick from Mr. Electric arrived when expected and quickly diagnosed the problem.  He recommended a solution and gave us a proposal for solving the problem.  We asked when he could do the work and how long would it take.  He said he could do the job that day and it would take 4 or 5 hours.  The price was reasonable, and we told him to get started.  He did a very good job, neat and within the estimated time.  The invoice amount for the job was was the same as the proposal amount.  We are planning on having Mr. Electric and hopefully Rick do more work in the near future to upgrade our home's 50+ year old electrical system. Photo of our new circuit breaker panel.
